Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Notable Notary has been committed to helping Ukrainians, Canadians, their families and anyone else who may need assistance. One of the main ways we have done this is through notarizing documents for our clients that are commonly required as part of the refugee application process. Listed below are these documents, along with links to resources that we have found most helpful in supporting Ukraine.
An invitation letter is a letter that is written by a Canadian citizen or legal resident to their foreign relative/friend in good faith of the Temporary Resident Visa (visitor visa) application. It also confirms that they are willing to accommodate this person in their home.
Once notarized, the person visiting Canada must present this letter to the Canadian embassy or consulate in their country. It is very important that this letter of invitation includes certain details about the host(s) and the person being invited to Canada. To help ensure all these requirements are met, we have a free invitation letter template available on our website.
Should you need additional information about invitations letters, please visit Government of Canada: Letter of Invitation or consult a licensed lawyer.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (“IRCC“) provides the IMM5409 Form – Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union, which is an application form used by individuals who want to add their common-law partners into their immigration applications. The Canadian Government has a number of family class sponsorship programs which may help individuals sponsor their family members for their immigration to Canada as a permanent resident of the country.
Should you need additional information about the IMM5409 Form, please visit Government of Canada: Assessing a Common-Law Relationship and Government of Canada: Family Class – The Application Process or consult a licensed lawyer.
A notarized letter of travel consent will be required for children who need to travel abroad without a parent or legal guardian. This letter allows for one parent to travel alone with their child, or for children to travel with a relative, and ensures the legitimacy of the consent being offered by the accompanying adult.
The Government of Canada provides a template of the travel consent letter which is conveniently available for download on our site.
